Local Independent county councillor Miceal Mac Giolla Easbuig said the meting was very positive and people are determined not to pay the latest charge.“These were ordinary people simply trying to get by and they want the message to go to Government that they cannot pay. They simply don’t have the money.“Many of them said they had paid the property tax and the household charge but they simply cannot pay the water charge because they can’t,” he said.He added that people should not feel pressurized into paying the charge as it cannot be taken from their salary or social welfare benefits. “This is not the case despite some suggestions that it is.“Irish Water is a private company which I suspect will eventually be floated and the shares sold off.“Why should the people of Donegal and Ireland have to pay for a natural resource to make a private company even richer,” he said. The Mayor of Donegal Cllr John Campbell also addressed last night’s meeting. LETTERKENNY MEETING HEARS CALLS TO BOYCOTT WATER METERS was last modified: October 3rd, 2014 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Cllr Mac Giolla EasbuigdonegalIrish Waterletterkennywater meterslast_img read more
