first_imgWhen the first Associated Press Poll for the 2017 season debuted on Monday, the Cowboys found themselves ranked No. 10. It’s the third time the Coach Gundy led Cowboys have been ranked in the top 10 to start the season. Thanks to the good people over at RedditCFB we can see exactly where each of the 62 AP voters ranked Oklahoma State to start the season. The highest OSU was ranked was No. 2 by Pat Dooley of The Gainesville Sun Times (bless you Pat Dooley). Dooley covers the Florida Gators, who he ranked 13th.The lowest ranking for the Cowboys was 23rd by Mitch Vingle of the Charleston Gazette-Mail. Vingle covers West Virginia, who he ranked 18th and recently picked to beat the Cowboys this season. The No. 23 ranking was more of an outlier than the No. 2. No other voter picked OSU to finish worse than 16th. However, only 24 of the total 61 votes placed Oklahoma State in the top 10. OSU had a three-way tie — ten votes each — for votes of 10th, 11th, and 12th place. As far as conference affiliation, more voters tied to SEC schools voted OSU in the top ten than any other conference with five. Granted, four voters from papers/schools/outlets affiliated with the Big 12, Pac-12, ACC, and Big Ten voted OSU top 10 so it was pretty evenly split. As for writers with Big 12 affliations, here’s how each one voted:• Ryan Aber (OU) of the Oklahoman slotted OSU 11th (really backing up the belief of OU favoritism there, Aber.)• Chuck Carlton (Big 12) of the Dallas Morning News has OSU 8th.• Kellis Robinett (KSU) of the Wichita Eagle has them 10th.• Kirk Bohls (Texas) of the Austin American-Statesman has OSU 7th.• Soren Petro (Kansas and Syracuse) of Sports Radio 810 WHB has OSU 10th.Other fun facts:• OSU’s No. 2 ranking by Pat Dooley is the highest individual ranking for any Big 12 team.• OSU’s next highest ranking was one vote for 6th by Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald.• Jerry DiPaola of the Pittsburgh Tribune, who covers OSU’s week three opponent Pittsburgh, voted OSU 12th.Feel free to take a look at the full list of rankings below (click to enlarge — or see the original post here). If you’re looking for the comments section, it has moved to our forum, The Chamber.
